WHAT IS HEPCINAT? 

Sofosbuvir is a direct-acting antiviral drugs that target different steps of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) lifecycle. It is a nucleotide analogue HCV polymerase inhibitor, meaning it blocks the polymerase enzyme which the virus must use to reproduce.

USES

Sofosbuvir is also used in people with liver cancer and hepatitis C infection who are waiting for a liver transplant to treat hepatitis C infection and to decrease the risk of reinfection after the transplant. It works by blocking one of the steps in the reproduction of the virus, helping to stop the duplication of the virus and allowing the body to get rid of the virus.

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

The side effects listed below are not experienced by everyone who takes this medication. Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur :

  • Signs of anemia (low red blood cells; e.g., dizziness, pale skin, unusual tiredness or weakness, shortness of breath);Symptoms of clotting problems (e.g., unusual nosebleeds, bruising, blood in urine, coughing blood, bleeding gums, cuts that don't stop bleeding);
  • Signs of depression (e.g., poor concentration, changes in weight, changes in sleep, decreased interest in activities, thoughts of suicide);
  • Signs of infection (symptoms may include fever or chills, severe diarrhea, shortness of breath, prolonged dizziness, headache, stiff neck, weight loss, or listlessness);
  • Stop taking the medication and seek immediate medical attention if any of the following occur :Bleeding in the stomach (e.g., bloody, black, or tarry stools, spitting up of blood, vomiting blood or material that looks like coffee grounds);

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

  • Before taking sofosbuvir, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.

  • During pregnancy, sofosbuvir should be used only when clearly needed. Sofosbuvir, in combination with ribavirin or peginterferon, must not be used during pregnancy by either the pregnant woman or her male partner.
  • The combination may harm an unborn baby. Two reliable forms of birth control (such as condoms, birth control pills) must be used whenever at least one sexual partner is using these medicines together, and for six months after stopping treatment.
  • If you or your partner becomes pregnant, or if you think you or your partner may be pregnant, tell your doctor right away.It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk.
  • Breast-feeding while using sofosbuvir, in combination with ribavirin or peginterferon, is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

SOFOSBUVIR INTERACTIONS 

A product that may interact with this drug is: amiodarone.Other medications can affect the removal of sofosbuvir from your body, which may affect how sofosbuvir works. Examples include rifamycins (such as rifampin, rifabutin), St. John's wort, tipranavir/ritonavir, drugs used to treat seizures (such as carbamazepine, phenytoin), among others.Do not take this medication with other products that contain sofosbuvir.

STORAGE
