Ruxolitinib (RUX oh LI ti nib) is a targeted therapy. It works by blocking an enzyme that causes scar tissue to form in the bone marrow. Jakavi is a targeted therapy that targets and binds to the tyrosine kinase receptors and inhibits Janus Associated Kinases which mediate the signaling of a number of cytokines and growth factors that are important for hematopoiesis and immune function. By binding to these receptors, ruxolitinib blocks important pathways that promote cell division.

JAKAVI is used to treat certain bone marrow disorders (myelofibrosis, polycythemia vera). It works by blocking your body from producing substances called growth factors. Growth factors cause cells to grow and divide, and cause the blood cell and spleen problems found in these disorders.
